In 2012, I made a short visit to Bucharest to carry out some research, but one things puzzles me - what happened to the horses who did gallop racing at Baneasa after the course was demolished in 1960 ?

I ask this question because between 1961 and 1967, Romania sent teams of about 15 horses each year to race at the international socialist meeting in Pardubice, Czechoslovakia (over jumps - "garduri" ) - and they won several races there. How did they do this if there was no racecourse in Romania ? I have read that there was gallop racing at Mangalia and also possibly at Cluj, but I have never seen anything online about this and certainly no results. In Bucharest, I saw the results of the gallop races at Baneasa for the years 1959 and 1960, and some of the horses (Vampir, Ping Pong,Letopiset, Fulger etc,) raced at Pardubice between 1961and 1967. The mare Savina (born in 1960) raced at Pardubice but was too young to race at Baneasa, though I have read that she won 3 races in Romania - but where ?

Most of the horses who raced at Pardubice came from Herghelia Cislau and Herghelia Balc - did these horses race at Mangalia or Cluj during the years 1961-1967 ? It is a mystery to me how racing continued in Romania, and if anyone has any information about what happened, I would be very interested to know. My E-mail address is czechhero@aol.com.

Thank you very much for reading this - multummesc !romanherohttps://www.blogger.com/profile/08518511791263778217noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1752624756698233966.post-729117744731078102016-04-23T14:36:41.725+03:002016-04-23T14:36:41.725+03:00Multumesc ! My name is Graham Stirling from England and I have for many years been interested in the history of horse racing in Romania, and have done some research in Bucharest. However, I want to find out what happened to the horses who raced on the flat (gallop) but who later raced over jumps (garduri) in Czechoslovakia, after the demolition of the racecourse at Baneasa.

I have been told that there was racing at Mangalia and also possibly at Cluj, but there is very little information about this online (nothing at all for Cluj) and it seems to be a mystery. Between 1961 and 1967, Romania sent teams of racehorses from Herghelia Cislau and also Hergelia Balc to race in Czechoslovakia (these included Vampir, Ping Pong, Mudret, Savina, Poet, Copil and others - I have a complete list - but surely, they must have been able to race somewhere in Romania first (maybe at Mangalia or Cluj).Usually, about 15 horses made the journey each year to Czechoslovakia in October for the international socialist meeting there.

Can anyone tell me what happened ? Any information at all would be fantastic.

In acei ani, facandu-se o medie valorica a driverilor indigeni, Iosif Szabo era a 3-a cravasa, dupa Nicolae Cerkasov si Misa Pavlic.
